About Us

facebook pageCouchi-couchi chairs is a Buckinghamshire-based company specialising in unique, quirky, vintage and antique chairs (not to mention sofas, chaises longue, footstools etc.) which have been restored, recovered and regenerated to the highest spec by the couchi team.

The chairs are an eclectic mix of interesting and desirable shaped frames with eccentric, contemporary or sometimes even downright traditional coverings and the same goes for the finishing details. We love putting together different combinations of styles and tearing up the rule book!

They each have their own character and personality and will be shouting to be the focal point in any room. Whilst aspiring to fit in with 21st century lifestyles they will shake a nod at past eras.

Each piece is thoroughly cleaned, stripped back, renewed, reupholstered and then uniquely customised. British fire regulations are conformed to where necessary.

Each item is named and numbered but we reserve the right to use the same design formula on different items. Prices reflect the amount of time, skill and expertise which has gone into each item; they will therefore vary.

A bespoke service is also offered so if you have any special requests, just ask. Accessories can be provided or sourced to complete the look. Please contact us with your requirements.

We don’t have a showroom, but viewing is welcomed and encouraged (by appointment only please).
Go on, have a day out by sunny Milton Keynes - or contact us - we may be able to come to you.

About the Designer

Sue Dewar

I worked for many years as a fashion designer before moving from London to a sleepy Buckinghamshire village.

I say “sleepy”, and it felt like it on first impressions, but the village has turned out to be a lovely little hub of creative talent.
It’s great having enthusiastic people around to bounce ideas off.
And I thought I’d miss the buzz of London!

After my formative, school and art college years in Scotland it’s fabulous to be back in a country environment but with London close by when I need a fix.

The switch from fashion design to furniture evolved quite naturally over a few years. There are many similarities in the design process but chairs and sofas are a lot heavier than clothes and take up more room!

After a frustrating search for dining chairs for my “country” home I decided there was nothing else for it but to do them myself.
I got the bug then and started doing up more of my own chairs as each room was being decorated.

When I started getting requests from family and friends to have their furniture “couchied” I realised there was a real desire for more interesting and individual furniture than is currently available in the market place.
So … couchi-couchi chairs became established.

Of course I couldn’t have done all this on my own and owe a massive debt to my upholsterer who is hugely experienced and talented and has allowed me to badger my way into his workshop, his nervous system and his network of related experts without whom none of this would be possible.

The sparkle of couchi-couchi is the wonderful feeling of rescuing old chairs and breathing new life into them so that they can shine again for many years to come.
